On the International Space Station (ISS), extravehicular activities are major events in the building and maintaining of the orbital laboratory, and are performed to install new components, re-wire systems, modules, and equipment, and to monitor, install, and retrieve scientific experiments. Today, we operate 65 antennas across 10 ground stations worldwide, fully owned and controlled by SSC, including 20 antennas at our Teleport in Stockholm, Sweden. To give a full availability and quality of service, this ground station network is completed by 15 partner antennas provided by SSC’s carefully selected collaborative stations. During that flight, he will conduct three Extra Vehicular Activities (EVAs) or 'spacewalks' to attach new hardware to the Space Station.
The International Space Station (ISS) is the largest space station ever built, the largest structure ever assembled in space, and one of the most complex international scientific projects in history. Now essentially complete, the ISS is more than four times larger than the old Soviet Mir space station and longer than an American football field (including the end-zones).
